Hi

This is the story of our artworks

KeDi Artworks is an artistic collaboration between husband and wife, Kevin and Diana.  Our artworks are handmade originals from our small studio in Toronto, Canada.

ACRYLIC

POURS

Fluid acrylic pouring is a multifaceted technique that can be traced back to around 1935 when Jackson Pollock was introduced to the revolutionary work of David Alfaro Siqueiros at a workshop in New York. This experience was one of the influences that lead to Pollock’s action paintings and broadly to the Abstract Expressionist movement. Please do not get the impression that I think that AbEx was all Pollock’s doing. There were many other artists, critics, collectors and curators who played big roles in the development of AbEx. I am only pointing out one thread which ultimately lead to Fluid Acrylic Pours.

The technique has evolved with the development of acrylic paint and depends on the interactions between acrylic paint in its fluid state. The different acrylic colours have different densities. As the paint settles from the first application, the different colours rise or fall within the still fluid layer and can make stunning coloured patterns.

GLASSWORX

Acrylic pouring is a bona fide child of abstract expressionism because the result depends on the artists setting materials in motion – with skill, technique and in tune with the artist’s expression – but acknowledging that the paint will do what paint will do.

So, one challenge, for most painters, is to exercise some control on the process to maximize the desired quality of the results. A second challenge is to depart from the basic process and apply a unique artistic vision to the results. Diana and Kevin are actively pursuing this direction through their new Glassworx series.
