We call our series Glassworx but what if we don’t use any glass?

As I have said elsewhere, we are working on a series that we call Glassworx. I want to comment about the name.
Of course the main reason we call our new series, Glassworx, is that we are working on glass. Glass is our choice of base instead of canvas or wood because it enables us to create a different look to our paintings. While acrylic paint does not adhere well to glass it does not matter because the glass protects the paint.
Ironically, we are likely to move towards plastic instead of glass as a substrate because it is less fragile. Whether this happens or not will depend on our experiments in base materials. The relationship between the paint and a hard surface and the resulting glass smooth gloss is important to our process and results. Experimentation will determine the exact material, combination or even variety of materials we end up using.
Back to the name. Given that we are considering a variety of base materials and even variations on our process we might not end up with any glass in our artwork. So we thought that we should be using a different name. We thought of several alternatives, however, they seemed awkward. I love the work of Philip Glass so this is an obtuse reference to his iconic 1982 album “Glassworks”.
In the end we are seeking a material or a process that is as smooth and as transparent as glass, so, Glassworx it is.
